Qeychain™
Qeychain™ is Turnqey’s crypto accounting and cost-basis engine.
It helps advisers, tax professionals, and partner platforms organize supported wallet activity, normalized transactions, tax lots, cost basis, realized gains, unrealized gains, income events, and reporting data.
Qeychain supports accounting and tax-preparation workflows. It does not provide tax, legal, or investment advice, and its reports should be reviewed against source records before filing.
What Qeychain helps users do
Qeychain can help users:
- Track linked wallet activity across supported blockchain networks and configured data providers
- Review crypto holdings and transaction history
- Calculate FIFO cost basis
- Create and track acquisition tax lots
- Review realized gains and losses
- Review unrealized gains and losses where pricing and basis are available
- Distinguish short-term and long-term holdings
- Identify wash-sale context under configured asset policies
- Track qualifying asset movement across linked or supplied owned wallets
- Correct missing cost basis for identified lots
- Review recognized staking, reward, airdrop, mining, interest, and yield events
- Generate tax summaries and supporting exports
Results depend on transaction-history coverage, provider availability, pricing data, wallet ownership information, account permissions, and the quality of source records.
Core workflows
Wallet tracking
Users can link or supply supported wallet addresses to retrieve available balances, positions, and transaction history.
Coverage depends on the blockchain, data-provider entitlements, provider indexing, and the user’s Qeychain plan or partner access.
Transaction normalization
Qeychain converts supported provider records into a common transaction format for downstream accounting.
The engine classifies recognized events such as purchases, sales, swaps, transfers, staking activity, rewards, borrowing, and other supported operations. Events that cannot be classified reliably may require review.
FIFO cost basis
Qeychain processes acquisitions and disposals using FIFO (first in, first out) unless a different supported reporting method is expressly selected.
Acquisition costs, recognized fees, holding periods, remaining quantities, and lot consumptions are tracked at the lot level.
Tax-lot tracking
Each supported acquisition can create a tax lot containing information such as:
- Asset and network
- Acquisition date
- Original and remaining quantity
- Cost per unit
- Total and remaining basis
- Holding period
- Lot status
- Source transaction
- Basis reliability and review status
If Qeychain cannot determine an acquisition’s historical basis, it retains the lot and marks the basis as unknown rather than automatically treating it as zero.
Authorized users can assign basis to an exact identified lot through the manual-basis workflow.
Realized gains and losses
Supported, reliably valued disposals are processed through the cost-basis engine.
Qeychain calculates:
- Proceeds
- Cost basis disposed
- Recognized disposal fees
- Realized gain or loss
- Short-term or long-term classification
- Wash-sale adjustments when enabled and applicable
If reliable fair-market value is unavailable, Qeychain may defer realization instead of recording a disposal with fabricated zero proceeds.
Unrealized gains and losses
For open positions with sufficient pricing and basis data, Qeychain can calculate:
- Current quantity
- Current price
- Current value
- Remaining cost basis
- Average cost
- Unrealized gain or loss
- Unrealized gain or loss percentage
Unknown values are returned as unavailable or null, not presented as known zero values.
Transfers and lineage
Qeychain can preserve cost basis and acquisition dates for recognized non-taxable transfers between linked or supplied owned wallets.
Transfer matching and lineage depend on the relevant owned-wallet addresses being provided and the source and destination events being identifiable. Unmatched external transfers may require manual basis information.
Reporting
Qeychain supports the following reporting workflows for recognized and sufficiently complete activity:
- Dashboard tax and portfolio summaries
- Tax-year realized gain and loss summaries
- Short-term and long-term breakdowns
- Ordinary-income category summaries
- Tax-lot and cost-basis reports
- Form 8949 supporting data
- Form 8949 CSV and PDF exports
- Schedule 1 supporting data for recognized income events
- Asynchronous report generation for larger workloads
The dashboard’s YTD view follows the current calendar year. Tax-year reports should be used when taxpayer timezone and exact year boundaries matter.
Qeychain does not currently generate a completed Schedule D or a complete filed tax return.
Data completeness
Integrations should inspect Qeychain’s completeness indicators before relying on a result.
A result may be partial when:
- Full transaction replay is still running
- The account’s plan limits the visible history
- A provider cannot return complete history
- Historical pricing is unavailable
- An incoming transfer has unknown basis
- An event cannot be classified confidently
- Required provider credentials or entitlements are unavailable
A complete cost-basis status means processing completed for the available source history. It does not independently guarantee that every relevant transaction exists in the upstream provider’s records.
Exchange data
Qeychain includes exchange-account connection, synchronization, transaction normalization, and exchange-transfer review capabilities for supported providers.
Exchange records and on-chain wallet records are not yet combined into one canonical, CEX-inclusive tax replay. Users should not assume that a wallet tax report includes every connected-exchange transaction unless that integration has been separately confirmed.
Where Qeychain fits
Qeychain powers the accounting layer behind Turnqey’s crypto reporting workflows.
TAIP™ provides advisers with client and portfolio workflows. Qeychain™ supplies the supporting wallet, transaction, tax-lot, cost-basis, and reporting context used by those workflows.
Availability and data scope may vary by Turnqey product, partner configuration, and account permissions.
